We came out of the 2022/2023 winter season with no hive losses! We began the 2023 bee season with 7 hives and are already up to 10 with doing a few splits. Two hives are here at the Post, and the remainder are at our hive host locations:
- Fairacres Organic Produce in Elwood, NJ
- Homestead Nursery in Galloway, NJ
- Private Residence in Galloway, NJ
And for the first time, we are trying our hand at pollination services. Mid-April through Mid-May three of our hives are in blueberry fields. Hoping for blueberry honey this year!
Why do we have hives on other properties? Because we think it’s good stewardship. We want more people in the community to learn about bees, their connection to our food and the products they create. Each hive will also produce different colored and flavored honey based on the hive’s location and what’s available for foraging. We think that’s pretty neat.
Keep an eye out on our Instagram page for a closer look in the hives.
Hive Tours are HERE!
Want to learn more about honey bees?
Join us for a hands-on demonstration of an active beehive. Each session is capped to 8 people to allow for a more intimate experience. You will begin with a short lesson on honey bees, their hives and the products they create. Then you’ll suit up for a closer look inside the hive!
Watch honey bees at work making honey, bringing in pollen and even witness baby bees emerging from their cells. The session will also include a taste of honey fresh from the hive.
